We’re recruiting two volunteer interns for this summer (flexible start date of Monday, June 4th). They will help with development and fundraising at 350PDX, as well as community and campaign organizing.

350PDX Development Intern
350PDX seeks a development intern to support the work of the Development Committee. The Development Committee works to raise money for 350PDX through multiple revenue streams. The Development Intern will be overseen by the Executive Director.
350PDX is building a diverse grassroots movement to solve the climate crisis. In our short two-year history, we’ve grown to a core group of 250 activists working in 15 coordinated teams to build a statewide movement for climate action at local and state levels. We’re growing our collective power and have seen an incredible surge in momentum.
People are looking to plug into our organization and join the movement. And there is so much to do! But with growth comes financial demands; building our fundraising capacity and our organizing capacity must go hand-in-hand.
There are two options for this internship, each requires a commitment of 260 total hours
- Summer Option: 20 hours per week, June 4th through August 30th (dates are somewhat flexible)
- Summer-Fall Option: 10-12 hours per week, June 4th through December 31st (dates are somewhat flexible)
The intern is expected to serve at the 350PDX. Changes to this plan are to be agreed upon in advance between the Intern and the supervisor. The Intern is expected to attend a bi-weekly Development Committee Meeting and a weekly staff/intern check-in.
Responsibilities may include:
- Assisting with the planning and coordination of fundraising events
- Assisting with donor campaigns
- Communicating with and tracking business supporters
- Tracking contributions and communications, managing and updating donor data
- Sending donation receipts and thank you letters
- Assist with grant proposal writing, as time allows
- Other duties as assigned, to support ED and Development Team in fundraising
Skills/experience you may learn or develop:
- Event planning
- Fundraising campaign coordination
- Strategic planning for fund development
- Donor Relations
- Public Speaking
- Small nonprofit operations
- Data tracking / management
- You will also have the opportunity to build connections with people involved in Climate Justice organizing, local businesses, partner organizations and more.
Qualifications:
- Commitment and passion for solving the climate crisis
- Strong written and verbal communications skills
- Able to work in a team and independently
- Must be computer savvy and comfortable on the phone
Bonus:
- Past experience with fundraising
- Event planning experience
- Experience using Nationbuilder or other database system to manage donors

350PDX Community and Campaign Organizing Intern
The Community and Campaign Organizing Intern (intern) will assist the Lead Community Organizer (supervisor) with all aspects of their work, including campaign, community organizing, and office work.
350PDX is building a diverse grassroots movement to solve the climate crisis. In our short three-year history, we’ve grown to a core group of 250 activists working in coordinated teams, including 5 Campaign Teams, to build a statewide movement for climate action at local and state levels. We’re growing our collective power and have seen an incredible surge in momentum for bold climate action in Portland and Oregon.
The Community and Campaign Organizing Intern will work closely with the Community Organizer to support grassroots organizing for 350PDX Core Campaigns & Programs — Fossil Fuel Resistance, Just Transition to 100% Renewable Energy, and Divest/Reinvest — and assist with other organizing roles as needed including research, event planning, and engaging with key stakeholders. Changes to this plan are to be agreed upon in advance between the Intern and the supervisor. The Intern is expected to attend a weekly group check-in.

- Planning rallies, marches, film screenings, and other events
- Assisting in the development and distribution of educational materials
- Phoning membership to recruit and manage volunteers
- Assisting with skill trainings for volunteers
- Attending meetings with coalition partners
- Collecting petition signatures
- Facilitating meetings
- Conducting online research
- Data entry
- Additional projects as needed

Required Qualifications:

- Commitment to nonviolence as a means of affecting change
Bonus Qualifications:
- Spanish language fluency
- Desire for systemic change
- Prior experience with grassroots and/or student organizing
- Graphic Design skills
