The road ahead is clear: we can’t continue burning fossil fuels if we want a livable future. The climate crisis is on our doorstep, and we need real, sustainable solutions that transition us away from fossil fuels while centering the needs of frontline communities. And we need to stay vigilant to fossil fuel companies like NW Natural trying to sell us false solutions, this time in the form of greenwashed myths about fracked “natural” gas.

Fossil fuel companies have been lying to us and deliberately spreading misinformation for decades. But as climate change has become a more widely-known issue, these companies have been switching up their tactics and investing big bucks (from their ratepayers!) in greenwashing campaigns. NW Natural’s “Less We Can” campaign is a prime example of greenwashing, as they are openly spreading misinformation to try and convince us that “natural” gas is a somehow ‘climate friendly.’

We deserve healthy lungs, clean air, and a future powered by renewable energy, not the lies of the fossil fuel industry. So, what do we do?

Spread the word about the dangers of methane gas

We used to think lead paint was a good idea. The colors were brighter and it dried faster than other paints. But once we learned of the dangerous health impacts of lead paint, we got rid of it. It’s time we learn the same lesson about methane gas.

  • Watch our new video – Methane is the new lead paint – on the dangers of methane gas in our homes.

  • Use this social media toolkit to inform people about the dangers of gas and how they can take action

Sign the petition to make Multnomah County fossil fuel free

Dozens of cities, including New York, Seattle, Denver, and San Francisco, have already said no to fracked gas in new buildings. In Oregon, Eugene and Lane County are exploring new laws to regulate gas and provide clear pathways for clean buildings. You can join us right now to take action and demand Multnomah County do the same.

Sign the petition to make Multnomah County fossil fuel free!

With determination,

Dineen O’Rourke, Campaign Manager, 350PDX,
and the 350PDX’s Fossil Fuel Resistance and Creative Teams

P.S. — Join us this Friday at the Portland Climate Strike! Let’s collectively sound the alarm on NW Natural’s role in causing and worsening the climate crisis, and spreading dangerous misinformation to our community.
