350PDX was founded in 2013 by a small group of Portlanders who cared deeply about climate justice. They gathered around a kitchen table and asked each other, “What can we do together that’s bigger than any of us alone?”
More than a decade later, that small group became a movement of thousands and a powerful force for climate justice in Portland.
Today, 350PDX is staffed by a team of climate justice experts, supported by more than 100 active volunteers, and stewarded by a dedicated Board of Directors.
Year by year, the risks to a livable planet grow — as does our opportunity to bring more people into the work. Our Strategic Priorities bridge where we are today and the future we’re building, with clear goals to mark the way. They keep us grounded in present action while staying adaptable, always building toward the lasting change we know is possible.
We are committed to achieving climate justice impacts in three intersecting areas of focus:
Equitable Clean Energy
Advancing the region’s shift away from fossil fuels toward clean and renewable energy in ways that are equitable, regenerative, and benefit frontline communities. We do this by:
• Fighting fossil fuels and the harm they cause
• Increasing access to clean, affordable energy, and transportation systems
Healthy Ecosystems, Flourishing Communities
Connecting with the natural world, transforming policy and community practice to defend, restore, and ensure equitable access to healthy ecosystems for generations to come. We do this by:
- Equitably expanding the urban tree canopy infrastructure
- Defending and protecting our region’s critical ecosystems
Integrated Climate Policies & Governance
Building public understanding, civic participation, and accountability to advance climate justice priorities in governance, decision-making, and public leadership in Portland. We do this by:
• Educating and influencing decision makers
• Expanding civic participation and power
To build a powerful climate justice movement — one where knowledge, tools, and relationships outlast any single issue or campaign — we structure our work through two additional areas of focus:
A Resilient Climate Justice Movement
Growing and sustaining our community-based organizing infrastructure through education, training, belonging, joy and ecological connection.
Internal Capacity for Sustained Impact
Ensuring 350PDX has the systems needed to sustain long-term impact and organizational resilience and support a healthy, effective team, while operating in ways that are just, equitable, inclusive, and accountable to the communities most impacted by climate injustice.
