350PDX’s mission is building a diverse grassroots movement to address the causes of climate disruption through justice-based solutions by inspiring, training and mobilizing people to act. We are a relatively young, dynamic, volunteer-driven grassroots organization with thousands of supporters that regularly engages hundreds of people to volunteer and/or take action.

Position Summary

350PDX seeks an organizer to coordinate our Just Energy Transition work, expand and deepen our relationships with frontline communities to bridge the gap between climate and racial justice, and to support our leadership, staff and teams in the development and implementation of an organizational DEI (Diversity, Equity & Inclusion) plan. The organizer will work with our frontline and community of color allies and our volunteers on an initiative to aggressively reduce local greenhouse gas emissions in a manner that directly promotes economic opportunities for low-income people and people of color. The organizer will also support 350PDX’s internal efforts to increase skills and commitment among our supporters, staff and volunteers in applying a stronger social justice lens in all of our work advocating for solutions to climate disruption.

Our work is significant — the nation and world need compelling examples of communities that are addressing climate disruption head-on through bold and creative measures that bring diverse people together at a time of divisiveness and insufficient state and federal action.

Job Type: 1.0 FTE, salary $37- 46K

The Renewables & Equity organizer’s primary responsibilities include:  

  • Collaborate with, uplift and support the Just Transition work of our frontline community and community of color allies
  • Work in coordination with our frontline and community of color allies to help expand Collaborative partnerships and supporting organizations
  • Train and support the volunteer leadership of our new Just Energy Transition team
  • Coordinate DEI trainings and engage and organize volunteers in our Just Transition work; build our base of volunteers and activists trained in DEI and grassroots organizing tactics
  • Coordinate the development of outreach materials (e.g. web and organizational materials) and coordinate grassroots organizing efforts to generate broad public support for Just Energy Transition, and the goals of our frontline and community of color allies
  • Organize climate justice events and actions that lift up the work of our community of color and frontline allies and mobilize and engage people in the Just Transition work
  • Help develop and manage our process, planning and strategy documents related to our Just Energy Transition work
  • Other related duties as assigned
  • Because this position will involve regularly interacting with volunteers, a flexible work schedule that includes the ability to work some evenings and weekends is required.

  • Culturally competent and responsive, with an understanding and appreciation of diverse cultures and communities
  • Demonstrated interest, understanding and commitment to climate justice and/or social justice
  • Detail oriented, with strong organization and project management skills
  • Ability to plan effectively, meet deadlines and coordinate others’ involvement within a dynamic and fast-paced setting
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong computer skills including the ability to quickly learn new software and technology platforms
  • Resourceful, flexible and self-motivated

The following qualifications are desirable:

  • Grassroots organizing experience
  • Campaign management experience
  • DEI training/planning experience
  • Experience working with culturally diverse groups/communities
