No LNG Activists Birddog Governor Kate Brown at Democratic Party Holiday Event

Inside the IBEW hall, some No LNG protestors paid the $35 ticket price and attended in order to question Governor Brown about the LNG proposals at Jordan Cove (Coos Bay) and Warrenton, Or. but the event was tightly scripted and there were no Q and A’s. Activist Kelly Hanley attended inside and handed out No LNG information flyers to all attendees who were almost uniformly very receptive to the messages detailing the crushing environmental devastation these LNG proposals would wrought on Oregon’s salmon streams, forests and water. So called “natural gas” has methane gas as its chief component, and is not a bridge to a sustainable future but rather a gangplank to climate chaos. Methane is an 8600% more heat trapping greenhouse gas than CO2. Methane gas and CO2 escape/leak from the entire LNG production process—- from extraction fracking though transport through liquification through shipping and finally through burning.
So natural gas turns out to be even worse than coal when it comes to climate change. Adding additional investment to LNG means not only disastrous environmental degradations but also less investment in sustainable energy. It’s a zero sum game
and represents an ongoing competition with sustainable infrastructure for the foreseeable future.”
