Mardi Gras on Mississippi Avenue 2025!

Last night, 350PDX’s beautiful Pacific Northwest puppets made their first public appearance at the Mississippi Avenue Mardi Gras!

350PDX’s arts team led by Donna Murphy, Dannika Sullivan, and Lauren Sullivan is an all-volunteer powerhouse that creates puppets, banners, and other breathtaking works of art that celebrate climate justice.

In autumn 2024, 350PDX’s arts team and community members seized the opportunity to learn the art and mechanics of large-scale puppetry in several workshops led by Donovan Zimmerman, co-founder of the renowned Paperhand Puppet Project. Together they created puppets of iconic Pacific Northwest wildlife.

Last night, those animals made their first steps (and flights!) on Mississippi Avenue, moving to the fabulous beats of the Portland Samba band.

350PDX recognizes the challenges of our times, and we also recognize that joy and community are part of resistance. We are deeply thankful to our arts team and volunteers, parade organizers, and the Portland community for so beautifully celebrating and raising awareness for climate justice!
