Exploring Power and Privilege with Courage, Creativity, and Compassion @ 350PDX, Fellowship Hall
Nov 14 @ 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm

Join 350PDX and Oregon Humanities in this conversation project, “Exploring Power and Privilege with Courage, Creativity, and Compassion.”

What will we be discussing?

As individuals and groups, we experience varying levels of privilege and power. Recognizing our relationship to institutionalized oppression can bring feelings of defensiveness, guilt, shame, rage, terror, and grief, among other emotions. How can we craft transformative pathways for these feelings to unfold in ways that deepen our collective healing, rather than taking away from it? What transformations can we unlock when we choose courage, creativity, and compassion? What do we, as individuals and communities, need in order to heal and thrive in a beautiful and broken world? Facilitator Ridhi D’Cruz invites us to metabolize our participation in systems of oppression with vulnerability, forgiveness and empathy. This conversation may include hands-on activities.

Who is facilitating this conversation?

Ridhi D’Cruz is a placemaking consultant, sociocultural anthropologist, and permaculture educator living in Portland. They work to foster place-based empowerment within diverse communities, including people facing housing insecurity and governmental agencies, by drawing on diversity, equity, and inclusion, cultural sustainability, social permaculture, and placemaking and asset-based community development. They also enthusiastically participate in life affirming practices involving urban wildcrafting, plant medicine, natural building, and participatory technology. Ridhi is currently a co-executive director of City Repair Project, a grassroots placemaking nonprofit organizations in Portland.

About:
  • A place for emerging and long term activists to renew and refresh your spirits, minds and bodies.
  • A safe place of reflective listening and storytelling, where you can be heard and hear others
  • A place of calm to choose authentic life modes, experience various ways for healthy stress reduction and maintenance of emotional and physical health.
Long term emergency work is exhausting and often discouraging in our culture where denial has become delusion, and justice, for those in the margins, is challenged daily from the nation’s leaders.  Our consumer culture has commodified and isolated us.
There is mystery and love in the universe.  Nature shows us that each person, and all life, is precious.  Our consciousness is precious.  We do have the ability to recreate ourselves and choose our life views.  Justice has yet to come here on earth.  No words can capture the infinite.  Interrelationships with each other and life on earth hold the key to our life satisfaction.  All religions and views of spirituality are honored.
All are welcome. Donations of $3-$5.00 to cover expenses are appreciated.

Fossil Fuels Resistance Team Meeting @ 350PDX, Central Lutheran Church
Nov 19 @ 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Join the next Fossil Fuels Resistance Team meeting!

In order to stop the climate crisis from getting worse, we have to keep the remaining fossil fuel reserves in the ground. The Pacific Northwest is currently facing many active proposals for new fossil fuel infrastructure that if built would lock us into the fossil fuel economy and its carbon pollution for decades to come. The Fossil Fuel Resistance team seeks to stop new fossil fuel projects from being built in Portland or to service the Portland metro area, and to engage in regional fights to stop all new fossil fuel infrastructure in the PNW and beyond!

Current fights

    • Zenith Energy – Oil Trains in Portland – Alberta tar sands is being covertly exported right under our noses
    • Stop Jordan Cove LNG Export Terminal and Pacific Connector Pipeline (down in Southern Oregon)
    • Stop Tacoma LNG Facility
    • Stop Kalama Methanol Refinery – if built would be largest in the world
    • Act as a watchdog for the City of Portland’s Climate Action Plan and 100% renewable efforts
    • Click here to read more about this team

If you’re new and want to get up to speed, please let Melanie know (team co-lead, melanie.plaut@gmail.com) and she can meet you 30 minutes before the start time to explain what the team is up to.

#CutTheChaseChallenge to #DefundJordanCove KickOff
Nov 22 all-day

Tell JPMorgan Chase – the only U.S. funder of the Jordan Cove pipeline and biggest funder of fossil fuel worldwide – to cut funding of new fossil fuel projects by cutting up your Chase credit card!

Every time you swipe a Chase card (Southwest, United, and Amazon, too), a portion of your money helps to fund expansion of the fossil fuel industry, including the Jordan Cove Pipeline in Oregon. Let’s demand that JP Morgan Chase immediately defund the Jordan Cove Pipeline and stop funding other fossil fuel projects worldwide by 2030.

Join the National #CutTheChaseChallenge to #DefundJordanCove.  RSVP on the Facebook Event page.

Find more information about how and why here!   The Media Storm happens on November 22, with the Challenge continuing through 2019!
