Chase, stop fracking with Oregon!! Move Your Money Action @ J. P. Morgan Chase Bank
May 7 @ 11:00 am – 1:00 pm

Join the 350PDX Divestment/Reinvestment & Fossil Fuel Resistance Teams for an action to draw attention to one of the most destructive corporations on the planet.

J.P. Morgan Chase is the only US bank funding the proposed fracked gas pipeline to Jordan Cove, Coos Bay OR. Chase is also funding a new version of Keystone XL pipeline from Alberta to Oklahoma!

Street theater! Music!

This 350PDX Portland action is part of a nation-wide 350.org action. Chase is the #1 financier of extreme fossil fuels on Wall Street, increasing its investments in tar sands, coal and liquefied/fracked gas by over $4 billion last year. Chase is also asking the SEC to block a shareholder vote for a study of the financial and climate risks flowing from its investment in dirty fossil fuels.

If you bank at J.P. Morgan Chase, we urge you to MOVE YOUR MONEY! Look here for ideas of other places to bank.

If you would like to announce your decision to MOVE YOUR MONEY from Chase at the action please contact us @ the email link above—or just come and surprise us!

May Leadership Council @ Central Lutheran Church - Room 201
May 17 @ 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm

Please RSVP  to let me know you’re coming, or forward this RSVP link to another member of your team to represent you. You can coordinate with your co-leads, as you don’t both need to attend, but are welcome if you’re able. Multiple people from your team are encouraged to attend!

Let me know if there are any important topics you would like to propose for the meeting!

Please read: What is Leadership Council?

  • The all-leadership meeting gathers 1x per month, using a “Spokes Council” model

  • All team leads and members, staff, and board members are invited

  • One person represents their team as the Spokesperson for their team (the “Spoke,” like on a bike wheel)

  • The meeting is open for any team member to attend, and only the team’s designated Spoke acts on behalf of their team for decision-making. Occasionally during the meeting we will have time for teams to talk amongst themselves. In this way, team members are mostly quiet but not disconnected from their representation. In this way, the content of the meetings is transparent to the active members of the organization. This also provides opportunities for leadership development, as more people will experience the leadership spaces and have an understanding of the conversations that take place.

  • Teams can be represented by their leads, with other people also encouraged to take on the Spoke role in rotations (maybe of 3 months each, if possible?), and so there is a representative even if team leaders can’t attend. The meetings go best when the Spoke, if not a team lead, has attended at least one Leadership Council before.

  • Agendas and notes are found in the Leadership Council google drive folder (email nicole [at] 350pdx.org if you don’t have access to Google Drive)

“Albatross: The Film” Screening @ NW Documentary
May 18 @ 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Join NW Documentary on May 18 for a screening of the beautiful and challenging documentary, ALBATROSS.

Description from mountainfilm.org:
“Artist Chris Jordan alit on Midway Island in 2009 to photograph the albatrosses that populate this small spot of land in the middle of the Pacific. Little did Jordan know that he would return time and again to Midway on a wildly challenging eight-year odyssey to tell the story of these remarkable birds and what they mean to him. This is not your textbook nature documentary, but rather a revelatory and existential examination of life, loss and love. Exquisitely beautiful, immensely touching and ultimately inspiring, Albatross takes us on a journey to this remote island that few people ever see. What we glean is a profound understanding of how our everyday material lives intersect with the natural world, even when it seems far away.”

FREE Event!
Doors @ 6, Film @ 7pm.
**No entry after film starts, per filmmakers’ request
