PDX Climate Strike @ Portland City Hall
Sep 20 @ 10:30 am – 6:00 pm

RSVP here

In Portland, following the lead of youth from high schools, middle schools and youth organizations, we will be holding a rally outside of City Hall at 10.30am to demand an Oregon Green New Deal, and an end to fossil fuels here in Oregon.

This is followed by a march through downtown Portland, across the Hawthorne Bridge and over the the Eastbank Esplanade.

On the Eastbank Esplanade we will be holding a Climate Strike Festival near OMSI / the Tilikum Crossing Bridge, with opportunities for folks to become empowered in action for climate justice.

This means trainings such as – Climate Justice 101; What is the Green New Deal?; Organizing 101; Civil Disobedience; Volunteer Orientations; and more.

The festival is open to all, with art builds, trainings, climate movement orientations, music tents, film screenings, food trucks, and a place to build community and gain the skills and knowledge we need to end the climate crisis.

Across the world millions of people are stopping business as usual to take action on the climate crisis. Join us!

Contact: Strike@350PDX.org

The festival and march is being organized by a broad coalition of youth and adult individuals and organizations, including 350PDX, Center for Sustainable Economy, Columbia Riverkeeper, Democratic Socialists of America PDX, Extinction Rebellion PDX, Jobs with Justice PDX, OPAL Environmental Justice Oregon, Oregon Physicians for Social Responsibility, Pacific Climate Warriors, PCHRP – Portland Committee for Human Rights in the Philippines, Portland Clean Energy Fund, Portland Rising Tide, Portland Youth Climate Coalition, and Sunrise Movement PDX

Vigil at Zenith @ 5501 NW Front Avenue - on the sidewalk near the Zenith Energy facility
Sep 24 @ 7:00 am – Sep 26 @ 7:00 pm

Vigil at Zenith

No Tar Sands Oil Shipments

Not Here, Not Anywhere

Where: 5501 NW Front Avenue – on the sidewalk near the Zenith Energy facility

When: Tuesday, September 24th 7:00 AM to Thursday, September 26th 7:00 PM (60 hours continuous).

Stay tuned for information about additional activities the evening of Wednesday September 25th.

Why: Crude Oil from the Tar Sands in Canada is coming by rail through our neighborhoods, and being exported on our rivers. This puts us all at risk, as well as causing untold harm to native lands, boreal forests and our precious climate.

What: We will be keeping watch legally and peacefully outside the Zenith facility, to express our concern, our love for the planet, our grief, and our optimism that things can change. We will be tracking train movements and construction at the site, and putting pressure on government officials and the Zenith facility to cease the tar sands shipments. Press, public officials and faith leaders are invited to join.

Who: This effort is being organized as part of the Climate Strike week, with input from the Stop Zenith Collaborative, 350PDX, other organizations and many individuals. Everyone is invited to join the vigil. Bring food to share, illumination for the dark, pictures of what you love, music or art, and your watchful presence.

Fossil Fuel Resistance Team Meeting @ 350PDX Office, Central Lutheran Church (enter on Hancock St)
Oct 3 @ 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Join the next Fossil Fuels Resistance Team meeting!

In order to stop the climate crisis from getting worse, we have to keep the remaining fossil fuel reserves in the ground. The Pacific Northwest is currently facing many active proposals for new fossil fuel infrastructure that if built would lock us into the fossil fuel economy and its carbon pollution for decades to come. The Fossil Fuel Resistance team seeks to stop new fossil fuel projects from being built in Portland or to service the Portland metro area, and to engage in regional fights to stop all new fossil fuel infrastructure in the PNW and beyond!

Current fights

    • Zenith Energy – Oil Trains in Portland – Alberta tar sands is being covertly exported right under our noses
    • Stop Jordan Cove LNG Export Terminal and Pacific Connector Pipeline (down in Southern Oregon)
    • Stop Tacoma LNG Facility
    • Stop Kalama Methanol Refinery – if built would be largest in the world
    • Act as a watchdog for the City of Portland’s Climate Action Plan and 100% renewable efforts
    • Click here to read more about this team

If you’re new and want to get up to speed, please let Melanie know (team co-lead, melanie.plaut@gmail.com) and she can meet you 30 minutes before the start time to explain what the team is up to.
