Vigil at Zenith
No Tar Sands Oil Shipments
Not Here, Not Anywhere
Where: 5501 NW Front Avenue – on the sidewalk near the Zenith Energy facility
When: Tuesday, September 24th 7:00 AM to Thursday, September 26th 7:00 PM (60 hours continuous).
Stay tuned for information about additional activities the evening of Wednesday September 25th.
Why: Crude Oil from the Tar Sands in Canada is coming by rail through our neighborhoods, and being exported on our rivers. This puts us all at risk, as well as causing untold harm to native lands, boreal forests and our precious climate.
What: We will be keeping watch legally and peacefully outside the Zenith facility, to express our concern, our love for the planet, our grief, and our optimism that things can change. We will be tracking train movements and construction at the site, and putting pressure on government officials and the Zenith facility to cease the tar sands shipments. Press, public officials and faith leaders are invited to join.
Who: This effort is being organized as part of the Climate Strike week, with input from the Stop Zenith Collaborative, 350PDX, other organizations and many individuals. Everyone is invited to join the vigil. Bring food to share, illumination for the dark, pictures of what you love, music or art, and your watchful presence.
