Organized by Portland Democratic Socialists of America (Portland DSA)
Trans people, particularly youth, are under attack all across the country. On February 23rd, Texas Governor Greg Abbot directed state agencies to investigate cases of transgender children receiving gender affirming healthcare as child abuse. Other states are also considering draconian measures to dehumanize and oppress our trans siblings.
As socialists, we believe that the fight for queer and trans liberation is intertwined with our struggle against the capitalist system. Join us to rise in solidarity with transgender youth in Texas, around the country, and around the world on March 31st, Transgender Day of Visibility, where we will demand:
Free gender-affirming healthcare as part of Medicare for All!
The end of gender-based discrimination and transphobia at schools and in the workplace!
Public social housing to end trans homelessness, paid for by the billionaire class!
We will begin with a rally at Shemanski Park at 5 PM followed by a peaceful but rowdy march through downtown. Wear your favorite outfit, bring noisemakers, and be ready to mourn, celebrate trans visibility, joy, and love, and make yourself heard. Together, we can build a new world free of oppression, where all identities and genders are celebrated and no one needs to worry about violence, hunger, or houselessness.
ASL interpretation and glow sticks will be provided. Email info@portlanddsa.org for questions and endorsement requests.
