CANCELLED: Roots in the Storm

January 31 @ 1:00 pm - 4:30 pm

***This event has been cancelled, but it will be rescheduled. Please stay tuned for a new date, and thank you for your patience and flexibility!***

Communities are navigating a multiplicity of cultural and political storms that are not unprecedented but may be overwhelming to those who deeply care about justice. How can we care for the world without succumbing to overwhelm, and how do we care for ourselves and each other? This gathering is not focused on solutions, or fixing the world, but is designed to acknowledge the truth of the moment that we are in, and not pathologize the difficult emotions that arise out of this time of climate crisis and injustice.

Through shared conversation, art, poetry, music, movement, and ritual, we will come together to share our collective wisdom and learn navigational skills for this moment of promise and peril. Inspired by the work of wise teachers such as Joanna Macy, Adrienne Marie Brown, and Miriame Kaba, we will grow skills in self and community care, a vital part of successful community organizing.

About the facilitator:

Barbara Ford is an artist, poet, and longtime climate justice organizer. For twenty years, she has been a student, colleague, and friend to the eco-philosopher Joanna Macy, creator of the Work That Reconnects.  Barbara has offered her version of this work over those two decades to faith communities, activists, artists, teachers, and others striving to stay present and work for justice in a perilous world.
