Join us on Thursday, May 29 at 2:00pm at the Multnomah County Building (501 SE Hawthorne Blvd). The Office of Sustainability will be presenting to the Board of Commissioners about its work and budget. A strong public presence will send a clear message: our community values sustainability and justice. WEAR RED!
Background: Over the past decade, Multnomah County has emerged as a national leader in climate and environmental justice. But now, that progress is in jeopardy. County Commissioners are considering eliminating Multnomah County’s Office of Sustainability, the very department that has driven this critical work. In just the past five years, the Office of Sustainability has helped to:
- Halt utility shut-offs during the COVID-19 pandemic
- Take fossil fuel companies to court for the 2021 heat dome disaster
- Work to protect communities living near oil trains and fuel tanks
- Secure monthly energy bill discounts for low-income Oregonians
- Oppose unjustified rate hikes from utility companies
We urge you to take action with us this week to keep this important work going strong and support the Multnomah County Office of Sustainability! If you can’t make it, you can also send a letter to Multnomah County Commissioners. Thank you!
