The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality is hosting just one in-person public hearing during this open comment period, so we need to pack the house to show our massive resistance to Zenith Energy and make our voices heard. The agency must deny the air quality contaminant discharge permit!
Rally & Public Hearing to Stop Zenith
Monday, May 12 at 6:00 pm
University of Portland – Buckley Center Auditorium
(5000 N Willamette Blvd.)
There will be

PIZZA

Wear red!
Bring a friend – we have a big auditorium to fill!
Logistics: Meet us at 6 pm outside of the University of Portland’s Buckley Center Auditorium (5000 N Willamette Blvd). We’ll have pizza, a brief rally, and a chance to sign up to testify. The hearing begins at 6:30 pm and will go until 9:00 pm.
Testifying: DEQ will have a station where people who want to provide a 2-minute testimony can sign-up right there. Testimony will begin after brief remarks and a short presentation about the draft permit, and people will be called on to provide their testimony in the order they signed up, with in-person attendees prioritized before online attendees.
For help with writing your testimony, you can refer to this great talking points document from Columbia Riverkeeper. (We are also very happy to have you join us even if you’re not planning on testifying. Coming to be in the audience, wearing red, to support those testifying is very helpful!)
Zenith currently needs an important air quality permit from Oregon Department of Environmental Quality to continue operating, and we have until May 30th to get as many comments on the public record showing why this permit should be denied. For nearly 7 years, dozens of organizations, including labor unions, neighborhood associations, environmental advocacy organizations and thousands of Portlanders have been opposing Zenith Energy: a Houston-based oil company that’s been transporting 300 million barrels of fossil fuels annually through our community to their storage terminal in NW Portland. This is a moment where we have the opportunity to stop Zenith for good, so join us in filling the auditorium on May 12 and making our voices heard!
