Join 350PDX, Showing Up for Racial Justice, and the Oregon Sierra Club for a Racial Justice and Just Transition 101 Training. This event is oriented to community members who are not invited to the Oregon Just Transition Assembly. Communities who are targeted by white supremacy, economic exploitation, and environmental racism need the support of communities who benefit from the extractive economy.
This is the parallel event to the Just Transition Assembly (OJTA), and is the space for white folks to come together to address white supremacy in the Just Transition. Saturday’s theme is “End the Bad,” and is the primary work of white and other non-frontline people in the Just Transition movement.
White people have an important role to play in frontline-led movements. OJTA needs you to show up, provide background support, take on logistics, and be present in frontline community spaces respectfully. Everyone who supports climate justice should align with OJTA’s vision, link your participation to the core principles, and recruit your community to help grow and support the movement for a Just Transition for all.
RSVP is required. Please RSVP here.
Please bring a bagged lunch if you are able to. Some food and coffee will be provided.
Suggested donation is $15. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.
Organized by OPAL Environmental Justice, Standing Up for Racial Justice – Portland Chapter, 350PDX and the Sierra Club
Just Transition is a vision-led, unifying framework for understanding our economy. The core principles and processes of a Just Transition create collective ownership over finding solutions. A Just Transition resists the three dynamics that shape today’s world conditions—the economic crisis, the ecological crisis and the crisis of empire. This event is parallel to the Oregon Just Transition Assembly and is open to the public.
