Portland General Electric (PGE) has proposed to build two additional gas-fired power plants at Boardman, Oregon. Gas power isn’t a bridge to the future – it’s a wall. When methane pollution is accounted for, from the wellhead to the power plant, gas contributes more climate-disrupting pollution than coal.
The Oregon Public Utility Commission (PUC) plays an important role in approving PGE’s 20 year energy plans (Integrated Resource Plans). PGE has chosen to double down on fossil fuels and they put forward a very gassy plan that would allow for them to build these new gas plants, instead of an alternate plan that favors wind and renewable energy.
Join us and our allies and be a presence in this PUC meeting to show that Oregonians want clean renewable energy like wind and solar, not fracked gas. We’ll wear red and listen to both PGE and expert clean energy advocate testimony about PGE’s 20 year energy plan. This is a great chance to learn more about how the PUC — and to get to know your fellow activists. Afterwards we’ll go over to La Margarita for lunch (un-hosted).
Please note that there will NOT be an opportunity for public comment at this meeting. There will be opportunity for public comment at future meetings, so this is a good chance to learn about the process.
