Portland Youth Climate Strike (PYCS) organizers, in collaboration with over 30 Oregon organizations, are striking for the climate in Portland, Eugene, Salem, and Bend. Hundreds of Portland youth will walk out of school across the state and all are invited to join, regardless of age.

This action is also in solidarity with a global mobilization of climate actions during the weekend of Sept 15-17, where millions of people around the world will take to the streets to demand a rapid, just, and equitable end to fossil fuels.

Together, we will:

— Call on Governor Kotek to declare a climate emergency, allowing the State to act swiftly to reduce Oregon’s greenhouse gas emissions and help to facilitate the creation of housing and transportation systems that are more affordable, accessible, and sustainable.

— Call on the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) to regulate the Critical Energy Infrastructure (CEI) Hub — a six-mile stretch of seismically unstable land along the Willamette River that is used to store fossil fuels

— Call on Portland City Councilors to rescind a land-use permit they had granted in a backroom deal with Zenith Energy, allowing them to expand their local oil-by-rail operations.
