Big Oil and Big Business are teaming up to challenge Portland’s fossil fuel terminal ordinance passed last December! The Western States Petroleum Association and the Portland Business Alliance have asked the Oregon Land Use Board Appeals to overturn this landmark policy, rolling back essential health and safety protections for our community while allowing more fossil fuel development.
Background: In December 2016, Portland passed a historic land use ordinance to restrict the development of major new fossil fuel projects, such as new oil or coal terminals. The policy was supported by thousands of community members who came out to hearings and submitted public comments in support of the ordinance. Now, industry is fighting back appealing the policy.
The public is welcome to attend the upcoming Land Use Board of Appeals hearing, this Thursday, June 15th at 11am in Salem, OR. The LUBA hearing is a formal legal proceeding, not a public hearing. Please dress formally and come prepared to listen. Please RSVP Online.
