PGE is proposing to build two huge gas-fired power plants at Carty-Boardman on the Columbia River. If built, these power plants would be the largest GHG polluters in Oregon for the next thirty years, and would make it impossible for Oregon to achieve its GHG-reduction goals.
A state agency, the Energy Facility Siting Council (EFSC) is holding their regular public meeting in 550 Capitol St. NE, in Salem, on Thursday, Jan. 19, starting at 8:30 a.m. and running day-long. EFSC can grant or deny PGE permission to build these gas-fired power plants, and this is an opportunity to get in front of them and show them that Oregonians want clean energy, not fracked gas.
Join us wearing red and attend the meeting to speak out against the PGE gas plants during Public Comment. Wearing red is important to show our opposition to the project. There will be one opportunity for Public Comment in the morning around 10, and one in the afternoon around 2. These times are approximate as they go with the flow of the meeting. Linked are draft talking points by Columbia Riverkeeper: https://drive.google.com/drive/u/0/folders/0BxOikN8tZTmiWE9sdEd0Vi01R3M
EFSC is not used to having the public attend their meetings, so having just a dozen of us wearing red in the audience, and a handful of us making pointed comments, will make an impact on them.
We will do our best to help coordinate carpools from Portland to Salem but on such short notice cannot guarantee rides.
