Hosted by Portland Rising Tide. Co-hosted by 350PDX and Portland DSA.
Direct Action has been an important piece of the fight against new fossil fuel infrastructure, but it’s not just for stopping pipelines. It has a rich history and can play a role in any movement.
With the permit process for Jordan Cove nearing its end as well as growing momentum behind serious action on climate, like a Green New Deal, this seems like the perfect time for a Direct Action training!
Portland Rising Tide would like to share their skills and experience with the many new (and not so new!) people who are showing up to organize for a better future. This training will provide an introduction on how to develop and prepare for nonviolent direct action. We will cover subjects like:
Strategy and Tactics
Scouting
Action Roles
Media and Messaging
Building Trust, Taking Risks
Know Your Rights (from the CLDC)
Join us on Saturday May 18th from 10:00 to 4:00 to learn about how we can up our game in the climate movement and beyond. The Know Your Rights portion of the training will be provided thanks to the Civil Liberties Defense Center.
Please RSVP using the following form so we can provide adequate space and snacks:
