Portland based international timber investment firm, Campbell Global, manages over 150,000 acres of industrial timber plantations in Western Oregon. JP Morgan Chase recently acquired Campbell Global stating their timberlands are “a natural solution to many of the world’s climate, biodiversity and social challenges.”
In truth, Wall Street timber plantations store little carbon, damage water supplies, and impoverish rural communities. The temperate forests of the Pacific Northwest are some of the best forests per acre at storing carbon. As people suffer and climate warming increases, the carbon storing potential, the clean water and habitat, and the just rural economies created by forests are being sacrificed for Wall Street gains.
Join community members on Tuesday, April 5th at 4:30pm at Terry Schrunk Plaza for a demonstration across from Campbell Global’s headquarters to demand an end to forest and climate greenwashing and call for a Just Transition for Pacific Northwest forests.
The climate crisis is intensifying and unrelenting. Financial institutions and investment banks continue to profit off fossil fuels and deforestation while people suffer. The greenwashing must end.
