Candidate statement:
I view politics through a lens of responsibility and stewardship. We spend a great deal of time and energy in conflict over decisions that impact our community on a four year timeline. Environmental policy choices can echo for millenia.
We must address the risk at the CEI Hub to protect the lives of the people living nearby and the health of the river. We have a known danger and a responsibility to ask. We must continue with risk bonding, holding companies liable when they fail to follow the rules, and making sure they internalize risks they create.
We should use PCEF funds to achieve fareless transit. PCEF brings in several times more money than Trimet does in fares. Fareless transit would increase ridership, decrease pollution, and reduce costs for low income residents.
Portland should seek to become the global leader in green building by creating a model building code and making permitting of sustainable designs simple and appealing.
I support improving access along the Willamette wherever possible.
Portland must prepare for the impacts of climate change. We need to mitigate wildfire risk. We need to retool our efforts on expanding the urban tree canopy.
Future generations are going to live with serious impacts from climate change and we have a responsibility to act.
