Come to Anacortes in Mid May…Because Business As Usual Is Killing Us

April 12, 2016/in Announcements, Fossil Fuel Exports /by Guest Author

Screen Shot 2016-04-12 at 9.46.15 PMWe know the basics. Our relentless consumption of fossil fuels is killing our planet’s ability to sustain us. We can make personal choices to reduce our own consumption, and that is meaningful. We can be hopeful when we read optimistic forecasts about alternative energy, and that’s reasonable.

But the bottom line is that, on our current trajectory, we are headed toward climate catastrophe. And who knows why — but the fossil fuel industry and those who profit from it seem not overly concerned.

That’s why people all over the world this May are stepping out and stepping up to confront the fossil fuel industry where it lives.

Here in the Pacific Northwest, we are converging on March Point in Anacortes, WA, whose refineries produce nearly half of all the gas and diesel consumed in our region, and where Shell Oil is proposing to add a new facility that would even increase crude oil train traffic on the Columbia River.

This is a time to say No. Together, with one voice, all over the world.

NO to fossil fuels.
Yes to our common humanity.
Yes to a sustainable human future.
We will not sell out our future and our children’s future to our fossil fuel addiction.
This is what BREAK FREE means.

You don’t have to get arrested. I don’t plan to myself, though I’m grateful to those who will be committing civil disobedience.

But if you know yourself to be a citizen of the world, and if you have a stake in the future, even just a sentimental one …. Please put in an appearance.

See you there?
