PCEF for Moda? I have my doubts
The mayor has suggested using $75 million of Portland Clean Energy Community Benefits Funds (PCEF) to renovate the Moda Center, while the Trailblazers’ billionaire owner refuses to contribute to the project. The public, the PCEF Committee, and city councilors have not seen a proposal for how PCEF would be used in this renovation, and cannot evaluate whether it relates to PCEF’s goals of climate justice and community benefits. In late July, City Council will begin evaluating a terms sheet regarding the Moda Center. Let them know you want the PCEF Committee to fully evaluate a proposal before they approve any use of PCEF. Send this letter today.
Sign up to contribute to a policy to reduce building emissions in Portland
Councilor Avalos is hosting a community workshop on July 14 about the upcoming Climate & Health Standards for Existing Buildings policy. Learn about the policy and share your perspective!
Buildings make up 53% of Portland’s greenhouse gas emissions. This policy targets LARGE commercial and multifamily buildings (over 20,000 square feet), and includes tenant protections.
Methane “natural” gas companies will likely oppose this climate friendly policy, so it’s important community members show up and support strong emissions reductions!

Support Multnomah County Climate Justice Plan
Multnomah County’s Draft Climate Justice Plan has one more comment period before a vote by County Commissioners! The Climate Justice Plan is a roadmap directing the County’s climate efforts. Developed through a new kind of climate planning process, the plan was drafted in deep partnership with community. To influence its passage, please share your thoughts with County Commissioners through written or oral testimony.

A place for anyone interested in the climate justice movement to come together and talk about the most important books of our time.

- We meet every month, usually the first Wednesday 6:30pm-8pm (although this sometimes changes, so doublecheck). We alternate between virtual meetings via Google Meet and in-person meetings at the 350PDX Office (see right for upcoming dates)
- We read both fiction and non-fiction

Restore Federal Recognition for the Chinook Indian Nation
In 2001, the Chinook Nation obtained federal recognition from the U.S. government. However, celebration turned into heartbreak when the U.S. government rescinded this recognition eighteen months later.
The Chinook Indian Nation was essentially declared nonexistent in the eyes of the government. The nation has been unable to access programs and resources to which federally recognized tribes are entitled. Over the last 20 years, the lack of federal recognition has cost $200 million dollars, opportunities for youth, and countless lives.
We are calling on our elected officials to federally recognize the Chinook Indian Nation.
