No Immunity for Big Oil Resolution

Urge Portland City Council to vote yes on the No Immunity for Big Oil resolution by submitting written testimony and contacting your councilors! Portland’s City Life Committee passed this resolution on September 22, and it is expected to go before the full council in coming weeks. Make sure councilors know there is broad community support! We want to ensure there are ways to hold big polluters accountable for the damage they have caused to the climate and our communities, and that they don’t receive immunity from lawsuits and Make Polluters Pay bills through a federal preemption.

Ban Tear Gas & Other Chemical Weapons in Portland

Tear gas and other chemical weapons are harmful to public health and to our environment. Banned in warfare by the Geneva Conventions, these harmful chemicals should also be banned in the places we call home.

Portland City Councilors Sameer Kanal and Candace Avalos are proposing an ordinance to limit the use of chemical weapons, like tear gas, in Portland. Please send a letter to City Councilors letting them know you support legislation banning chemical weapons on our streets.

Restore Federal Recognition for the Chinook Indian Nation

In 2001, the Chinook Nation obtained federal recognition from the U.S. government. However, celebration turned into heartbreak when the U.S. government rescinded this recognition eighteen months later.

The Chinook Indian Nation was essentially declared nonexistent in the eyes of the government. The nation has been unable to access programs and resources to which federally recognized tribes are entitled. Over the last 20 years, the lack of federal recognition has cost $200 million dollars, opportunities for youth, and countless lives.

We are calling on our elected officials to federally recognize the Chinook Indian Nation.
