Candidate statement:
When I am on the City Council, my climate priorities will be rooted in justice, equity, and sustainability, centered on uplifting marginalized communities.
The impacts of climate change—heat waves, floods, wildfires—hit low-income, BIPOC, and frontline communities hardest. I’ll fight for climate-resilient infrastructure and shade equity by expanding tree canopies in our communities to combat dangerous heat islands, ensuring that public health and safety are not privileges, but rights for all.
The Critical Energy Infrastructure (CEI) Hub and fossil fuel trains endanger Portland’s most vulnerable residents. I will work to phase out fossil fuels, prioritize renewable energy, and address the seismic dangers posed by the CEI Hub, ensuring we build a sustainable future that doesn’t leave anyone behind.
Environmental justice must be at the core of our climate policies. I’ll champion a local Green New Deal that creates green jobs and invests in renewable energy in the communities most harmed by environmental inequities. Expanding the Portland Clean Energy Fund (PCEF) is key to supporting these efforts, focusing on energy efficiency and job training for those who’ve historically been shut out of economic opportunities.
Finally, I will push for robust, accessible public transit to reduce car dependency, cut emissions, and connect our communities. Public health, racial justice, and climate action are inseparable.
My vision is a Portland where we confront the climate crisis by centering the needs and voices of those most impacted, creating a just and sustainable future for all.
Will you ensure the Portland Clean Energy Fund (PCEF) remains climate-focused in line with what voters intended?
Yes
