Candidate statement:
I will support policies that create safer streets to encourage more walking and biking. Today, many people, particularly in Districts 4 & 1 do not have safe or adequate pedestrian routes especially for children. Just like the salmon in our rivers, children and the elderly are our indicator species. If it is safe for them, it is safe for everyone. Efforts to get people out of their cars is vital. This is an urban planning and resource issue; I will propose new strategies for raising revenue in transportation.
Having spent much of my career securing funding for public transit, I support expansion of our transit system and the proposed southwest light rail line. These transformational infrastructure investments bring sidewalks and other improvements along with them.
I am very concerned about the CEI Hub and Zenith Energy and will support efforts to address these safety and environmental threats. The current proposal before the Multnomah County Commission to require responsible parties to post bonds is one step forward in the step-by-step strategy developed by the broad-based coalition organized by Linnton Neighbors to address the safety and environmental threats.
As I mentioned earlier, climate resilience is very important to me, making sure we are prepared for the climate disasters that are already occurring. I want to know that our bureaus are climate resilient and redundant. Our neighborhood emergency teams must be supported and expanded so that individuals and families know what to do in a climate disaster. This is a critical public safety and public health issue.
Will you ensure the Portland Clean Energy Fund (PCEF) remains climate-focused in line with what voters intended?
Yes
