Angelita Morillo — Candidate for City Council, District 3
Endorsed: Shade Equity Platform, CEI Hub Platform
Candidate statement:
The climate policies on my platform are centered around intersectionality. All issues have an effect on the climate when it comes down to it. My sanitation platform, for instance, will streamline the collection of trash around the city by working to create a unified sanitation system throughout the metro area, which will greatly impact the amount of litter and dumping on the streets as well as in natural areas. My transportation policy centers around investing in infrastructure to incentivize pedestrian, bike, and public transportation infrastructure to make them more pleasant, accessible, and efficient and to get drivers to elect to use them, making a huge dent in the sector that contributes to almost half of the City of Portland’s greenhouse gas emissions. Lastly, my housing policies call for more infill, density, and utilization of empty or underdeveloped land parcels within city limits, reducing sprawl and its knock-on impacts on the environment.
In addition to these policies, I will also advocate for the end of volatile fuel storage at the Critical Energy Infrastructure hub located on a seismically unsafe floodplain within city limits as well as an end to oil trains operating through the city, and I will be a champion for shade equity.
Will you ensure the Portland Clean Energy Fund (PCEF) remains climate-focused in line with what voters intended?
Yes
