Oregon forests are critical allies for clean water and a healthy climate. Forests have a unique capacity to sequester and store carbon, making them among the best tools we have for mitigating the climate crisis. They help protect our water, making it clean to drink for communities throughout the state. They support healthy wildlife habitat and rural economies. But these benefits are lost when forests are managed solely for corporate profit.

Campbell Global – an international timber investment company based in Portland – currently owns over 150,000 acres of Western Oregon forests. Campbell Global manages these forests as industrial timber plantations, which are a prime example of profit-based extraction that harms ecosystems and communities. Short-rotation clearcuts in timber plantations decrease the forest’s natural ability to store carbon and produce clean cold water. They damage drinking water, primarily in rural communities who are already being hit first and worst by the climate crisis.

JP Morgan Chase recently acquired Campbell Global and is trying to sell us false messaging about industrial forest management. But we know the truth, and we refuse to let Wall Street sacrifice our forests for corporate profit.

Take action for our forests!

Join 350PDX and our allies from Coast Range Association, SunrisePDX and other groups at Terry Schrunk Plaza on Tuesday, April 5th at 4:30pm.

We’ll listen to speakers then rally at the Campbell Global headquarters demanding they stop selling Oregon forests for Wall Street profit. We’ll call for a just climate transition, better forest management throughout our state, and divestment from Wall Street Forestry. Climate activists locally and worldwide are calling for divestment from fossil fuels. It’s time we use divestment as a tool to protect our forests too! And, of course, 350PDX will bring art! We’ll have tree puppets and signs for folks to hold. Come lend a hand, meet folks in person(!), and speak up in support of these life-giving places.

Get Wall Street Out of Oregon's Forests: A Forest and Climate Rally. Tuesday, April 5 at 4:30pm, Terry Schrunk Plaza, Downtown PDX. #defundwallstreetforestry #defundcliamtechaos
