John McDonald — Candidate for City Council, District 4
Endorsed 350PDX CJ platform? Yes
Will you support PCEF? Yes
Candidate statement:
When I moved to Portland eight years ago, I gave up my beloved Jeep Cherokee and settled into a one car household. I use public transportation for the majority of my city travels and know that a reliable public transit system cuts expenses, lowers greenhouse emissions and improves our quality of life.
I look forward to working with PBOT and TriMet to bring more eco-friendly vehicles into service and support transit-oriented development.
Climate change is real and protecting our environment is a shared responsibility. That’s why I will consult with experts in the industry to come up with solutions to ending our dependence on fossil fuels. As a councilor, I will advocate for lowering the storage capacity at the CEI Hub and explore options for relocating the tanks, while protecting the PCEF from raiders with conflicting interests.
I’ve always been a big proponent of recycling (enjoy it as a matter of fact), reducing waste, conserving water and energy supplies and fighting pollution. I was raised on the Forest Service’s Woodsy Owl campaign of ‘Give a Hoot, Don’t Pollute’ which is something I take to heart every day.
Rest assured that fixing sidewalks, planting trees, encouraging bicycling and following green building codes will be central components of my agenda.
By using a passionate voice based on lived experiences in our great outdoors, John McDonald will be a strong leader for the Climate Justice movement.
